Highs of 25 degrees are promised for Norwich in the coming days after months of wind and rain in the city.

Forecasters are predicting the temperatures to rise from 19 degrees on Saturday, 22 degrees on Sunday and reaching a summery 25 degrees on Monday and Tuesday.

Weatherquest's Dan Holley said warmer and drier weather is approaching this weekend - but warned sun-lovers to make the most of the rays before August sees a return of showers.

Last month was the wettest June on record country-wide, with East Anglia's rainfall reaching 94.4mm, almost double the area's average of 54.3mm.

An unusual southern position of the jet stream, a high-altitude belt of wind, has been blamed for the wet weather.

But forecasters are expecting it to move towards the north west of Scotland in the next few days, giving the south east some respite from the showers.

Some senior weather forcasters, according to Mr Holley, have said this year's weather is 'very unusual' and unlike a summer they've seen before.

He said: 'But this weekend's weather should keep most people happy at least.'
