Some areas could see 3cm more of the white stuff as snow moves up from the south of the country.

Forecaster Dan Holley tweeted: 'Pockets of freezing rain this morning, causing black ice in places. Snow will become more organised across southern counties this afternoon, spreading north during the evening, becoming light and patchy overnight. Rough idea of expected fresh snow accums by 9am Sat.'

He said southern parts of Suffolk would be more likely to see some fresh snow. But, as it becomes more widespread, the south of Norfolk could see some wintry showers by the end of the afternoon with the possibility of snow fall in other areas of the county tonight.

He added: 'The fresh snow on top of what there already is, which is very compacted, could cause some icy conditions.'

A Met Office weather warning is currently in place for snow and ice until 11.55pm. A fresh warning for ice has been issued until 11am on Saturday.

Temperatures are expected to rise to 3C in the region tomorrow which means the widespread snow will start to melt.
