Friends and family of Aaron Amis descended on a car park at Longwater, Costessey, to remember the 19-year-old and staged a convoy down the A47 before setting off lanterns.

Mr Amis, of The Street, Matlaske, was driving on the A47 from Great Yarmouth towards Norwich on April 6 when his car hit the central reservation at Witton, near Brundall.

When the former Aylsham High student attempted to get out of his vehicle he was struck by another vehicle travelling in the same direction.

His friend Jonathan Carr, suffered a broken neck in the collision, but is set to be discharged from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital on Monday.

Many cars were involved in the motor cavalcade last night to pay tribute to Mr Amis and his family were in attendance.

Car clubs including members of NRHondas, Street Elite, Clean Culture, and FYC Racing joined friends and family for the get together in Sainsbury's car park to remember the car enthusiast.

A bucket collection was also held for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Adam Harrison, 21, one of the organisers, said: 'We all wanted to show our respects. We all share the same interests and we have lost one of the family. We are trying to show that we are not all boy racers and we do care.'

Aaron went to Aylsham High School and worked on his father's farm.

Kieran Peterkin, who went to school with Aaron added: 'He was always into cars and motocross and he loved his Honda Civic Type R. He always had a smile on his face and he had a heart of gold.'

Liam Callaway, 19, of Aylsham, added: 'Aaron would have loved this. He died doing what he loved. He was in his car all the time.'

An inquest into the 19-year-old's death was opened and adjourned on Friday in Norwich.
