A collaboration between art and media groups and Norwich's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community has given an independent artist a platform to show his talents.

Dugald Ferguson, 30, of College Road, has been a solo artist for many years and a supporter of Norwich Pride, the city's biggest LGBT event.

His multimedia play, Torrents of Rapture, was showcased at the Forum Library's Fusion Cinema.

Luke Emery, co-producer of BETA at the Norfolk and Norwich Festival – which showcases new work – produced it, and Norwich Puppet Theatre in Whitefriars loaned free rehearsal space.

In addition, community radio station Future Radio loaned recording equipment and promoted it with Norwich Pride, who organised the showing as part of the build-up to the Norwich Pride 2012 event happening today.

Mr Ferguson said: 'The Norfolk and Norwich Festival put Norwich on the map and the Norwich Arts School is one of the best in the country – our city has an amazing and really large visual arts scene. This is a great place to live and develop work and ideas in any of the arts disciplines.'

The play is an LGBT comedy – a mock epic love story. It is told through 'olden-days-style' film and animation, tabloid photo journalism, opera, live performance, puppetry and the music of yesteryear.
