The Tudor Rose has stood just off the Tuesday Market Place on St Nicholas Street since the 15th Century, when it was built on the site of a former nunnery and surrounded by the town's old defensive walls.

Now the 14-bed Grade II listed hotel has been placed on the market for £390,000 by Cambridge-based agents Fleurets, which say it is being sold on behalf of fixed price receivers.

'The Tudor Rose Hotel provides a rare opportunity to acquire an established hotel,' the firm says.

'We believe that recently the business has been lightly traded by the former owner but feel that there is tremendous potential, particularly to improve the food, bar and accommodation sales.

'The Tudor Rose Hotel is located in the centre of the historic market town of King's Lynn, close to Tuesday Market Place, public car parks and the main shopping thoroughfare.

'The hotel is an ideal base from which to explore the extensive Norfolk Coastal areas, and Sandringham House and Holkham Hall are both within easy travelling distance.

'King's Lynn is an attractive, vibrant and prosperous town and a key urban centre serving a catchment population of around 200,000 people.

'The population of the urban area itself, is expected to grow to 50,000 people by 2021.'

The Tudor Rose closed in September. Its great oak door is now locked and its courtyard chained up.

Since then a number of potential buyers are believed to have expressed interest in the business.

The L-shaped timber-framed property also boasts public and lounge bars along with a servery, spirit store, bottle store, kitchen, courtyard and four-bedroom owner's accommodation on the second floor.

Agents say it is licensed to open until midnight in the week and 1am on Friday and Saturday, and pays business rates of around £8,000 a year to West Norfolk council.

The Tudor Rose is also said to be haunted by a woman in a long white dress, who is believed to be the ghost of a bride stabbed to death by her husband on her wedding day in the hotel.

She has been seen by guests in Room 7 while her footsteps have been heard elsewhere in the building.
