Tributes have been paid to a 'one-off' live music promoter, photographer and writer.

Dennis Goves, also known under his pseudonym as Den McCarthy, was a weekly music columnist with Eastern Counties Newspapers, the former publisher of the EDP, Norwich Evening News and North Norfolk News.

He wrote an article Country Beat under the name of Den McCarthy, which aimed to promote venues and musicians.

He put together shows at the Theatre Royal Norwich in the late '80s and early '90s featuring local and international artists.

He also staged shows at the Cromer Pier Pavilion Theatre where his last event in 2014 featured the Pavilion Big Band and Lena and The Uptown Playboys.

His widow Pauline Goves said: 'Dennis was a one-off. He held out the baton for anyone brave enough to grab it. Dennis had no ego. He was happy behind the scenes while others took the bow, just knowing he had made things happen was his reward.

'He had rare qualities - his even temperament, selflessness, wisdom, artistic skills and his vision.'

He was born in 1940 in Hounslow, Middlesex and took a 10-year apprenticeship at a photographic studio on leaving school.

In the middle '60s his family moved near to Cambridge and in 1969 he met and married Pauline, and they had three sons.

At this time they were living in west Norfolk.

He continued with his photographic skills by travelling the world working freelance.

In the '70s he travelled to China, USA, Canada and Mexico and photographed the building of Montreal's Olympic Stadium and the CN Tower in Toronto.

In the early '80s the family moved to Aylsham and he adored Norfolk and its people.

He founded the Rhythm Club at the Ferryboat Inn in Norwich in the 1990s.

He spent the last two years of his life photographing wildlife from his home in Marsham, and he joined the Liberal Party.

He died at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital on December 13, aged 76.

He leaves Pauline and sons Adam, James and Jonathan, six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

? The funeral service is at Cromer Crematorium on Thursday, January 11, at 11am.
