Fireworks set off from Norwich Castle whizzed, popped and banged their way across the city's iconic skyline.

The Big Boom event on Friday (November 3) saw thousands of people, young and old, turn out to watch the stunning display and soak up some of the street entertainment as part of the Norwich City Council-run event.

Stuart Ladbrooke, 67, from Sprowston was with his wife Jacqui, also 67, and their granddaughter Kira, seven.

He said: 'I thought it was the best one we've ever seen. They really went to town.'

Mrs Ladbrooke added: 'I thought it was absolutely lovely, really pleasurable. The colours...it was just amazing.'

Kira described it as 'fantastic'.

Also enjoying the fireworks were Rebecca Kalnins, 29, from Swafield, near North Walsham, who attended with 13-month-old daughter Bella and partner Darren Oakley, 31. She said: 'It was really good, really colourful.'

Meanwhile in Lynn, thousands more people flocked to The Walks for the ninth annual Fawkes in The Walks.

Kicking off the dazzling night was the lighting of a traditional bonfire by West Norfolk mayor Carol Bower.

The park was packed with an array of fairground rides, stalls and live music while revellers awaited the highlight of the evening.

But phones were soon pointed at the night sky as the evening ended with a spectacular fireworks display lasting almost half an hour.

This year, the free event, organised by West Norfolk council, had its own Fawkes in The Walks Snapchat filter, which proved a popular success.

Diane Ranshaw travelled from Sutton Bridge with her son Stephen George, 16.

She said she has attended the event every year for six years, adding: 'It is really, just what the community needs.'

Her son added: 'It is good for getting the whole family out.'
