The Stars of Norfolk and Waveney celebrates those who put other peoples lives before their own.
One hero who did this is Neil Ramsey who put his own life in danger by diving into the sea to try and save a drowning man at Sea Palling.
Mr Ramsey, 45, of Thorpe Road, Norwich was honoured for his actions at Stars of Norfolk and Waveney 2016, winning the award for Outstanding Bravery.
Four men were swept out to sea by a rip tide at Sea Palling beach on July 23 last year.
Two were able to make it back to land safely but David Castleman, 15, and his parents, who were walking on the beach, spotted the two others about 200 metres out at sea.
Mr Ramsey plunged into the sea, along with Mr Castleman, to save 52-year-old Leszek Puchala and his son, from Poland who was on holiday in the area.
Unfortunately Mr Punchala was pronounced dead at the scene but Mr Ramsey's actions gave him the greatest chance of survival.
'I was risking my life to save two others.' Mr Ramsey said.
'It was a mixed feeling when I was nominated, obviously I was pleased and honoured but on the flip-side a person had died and the family had lost a father.
'It was a really nice, it felt brilliant to be able to bring my son and my other half along. It wasn't just one person but a whole celebration. The food was amazing and the setting, you could tell the organisers had an attention to detail.
'I thought it was just going to be a certificate but it clearly wasn't done as a second thought. It was a quality night.'
Mr Ramsey received a cooking class at the Assembly Rooms as a gift along with the award.
'Me and my partner really enjoy cooking,' Mr Ramsey added, 'to get a gift as well showed they put real thought in, taking the time to find what I enjoy.'
After the awards Mr Ramsey has had others come forward to recognise his efforts, including his employer, the Royal Bank of Scotland, and an award from the Royal Human Society award.
'The sponsors and the people who were there were really gracious and they were genuine people who wanted to actually celebrate us.'
