Ambitious plans to expand a maritime museum celebrating a town's fishing and lifeboat heritage will be on show next week.

The public drop-in consultation exhibition at The Mo Sheringham Museum on Lifeboat Plain will be happening on Wednesday July 23 and Thursday July 25 between 10am-7pm.

Volunteers at the museum hope to get money from the Heritage Lottery Fund to build an extension to house the Atlantic 75 lifeboat.

The lifeboat was stationed in Sheringham from 1994 until 2007.

Currently the museum houses the JC Madge rowing lifeboat (1904-1936); the Foresters Centenary (1936-1961); and the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows boat (1961-1991).

The Atlantic 75 was the first of its kind in Britain for the RNLI and was replaced by the current Atlantic 85 boat in 2007.

If planing permission is granted, the 200 sq m extension would be built on what is the roof of the Lifeboat Plain building.

The extension would provide space for an education area and more exhibits including an encrusted cannon, which could date back to the 1588 Spanish Armada invasion era, and an admiralty anchor, which weighs a quarter of the tonne and could date from between 1750 and 1950.
