It is one of the biggest events in the region's calendar and those who attend this year's Old Buckenham Airshow will be in for a treat.

The latest act to be announced is the entertaining pilot Brendan O'Brien and his Flying Circus team.

Mr O'Brien wowed the crowds when he took part in the airshow in 2014 - landing his Piper J3 Cub plane onto a trailer moving along the runway.

And the experienced pilot, who has a license to fly most types of machine capable of being airborne, will be appearing on both days.

In addition to trying to once again land his helicopter on a moving trailer, the pilot will show-off his newest helicopter, Otto, to Norfolk.

The Helicopter, a fixture at US airshows and a hit with families, has a specially made yoyo attached to it.

Matt Wilkins, airshow organiser, said: 'The English language contains 171,476 words. None of them are good enough to begin to describe Brendan O'Brien, statistically the greatest peacetime pilot there has ever been.

'We're therefore thrilled to have him back and offer Otto the helicopter his East of England debut; sure to be a massive hit with the kids here as he has been in the United States.'

Another confirmed act is a 1943 Beechcraft staggerwing which will also be on display on both days.

Capable of taking off from small grass landing strips, it can cruise for a thousand miles at 200mph.

The two acts join the other confirmed acts which include, a Hawker Hurricane, a spitfire and the surprise hit act of last year's show Extra and the Model – an aerobatic plane which completes stunts alongside a 41pc scale model.

Last year the airshow, of which the Eastern Daily Press is a media partner, was a record-breaker with 5,000 visitors over the two days. And Mr Wilkins said he hopes to see similar numbers this year.

He added: 'This is by far the most exciting display ever.'

The event, which won Family Tourism Event of the Year Award at the 2016 EDP Tourism Award, will take place on July 29 and 30.

And aside from the air displays, there will be a vast range of things to see and do on the ground including tank rides and a wide range of refreshments.
