It's full steam ahead for Stalham's first yuletide market, which promises to start the festive season in style.

After weeks of feverish activity along the High Street, organisers said they were nearly there.

Trees and lights are set to go up this weekend, ahead of the event on December 3, refreshments are organised and each stallholder will soon be making the finishing touches to their stalls and produce.

The event is organised by the Stalham Area Business Forum, which was established as a not-for-profit organisation to put a spotlight on the town.

Spokeswoman Di Cornell said: 'This is our second big event in this small town. The first was a vintage and collectors' street market in August.

'There will be 45 stallholders in a number of locations along the High Street.

'There will be outside stalls in the Swan Inn car park, outside shops and in doorways. There will be inside stalls in the town hall, the Baptist school hall, old Barclays and Nat West banks and St Mary's Church.

'The Christmas tree festival in the church is larger than ever and local choirs will be performing during the afternoon.

'Later, there will be a sing-a-long carol session in St Mary's Church, led by the Stalham Players and the Scratch Band.'

Shops and cafes will be open and there will be a hog roast outside Cawdron's butchers, and doughnut and coffee stalls along the High Street.

Stalham Brass Band will be performing outside the Grebe, and there will also be music from the Red Shed Band and a Dutch Street Organ.

Father Christmas, from a Grotto in the old Barclays Bank, will be giving out presents to children from 2pm until 5pm.'

Meanwhile, 23 shops and businesses are taking part in the Green Father Trail, which will be unveiled at the market.

Each shop will have a display with a Victorian Green Father Christmas.

A quiz night raised £450 towards the 54 Christmas trees that will decorate the High Street and Henry Nicholson, of Stalham Engineering, also donated £250 towards their cost.

The market is on Sunday, December 3, from 2pm until 7pm.
