The High Sheriff of Norfolk said she was impressed with the efforts being made to support vulnerable young people in Fakenham.

Lady Leicester visited Steven Newing House yesterday to learn more about how it provides emergency accommodation and lifestyle support to help people achieve their full potential and a greater level of independence.

It is managed by The Benjamin Foundation in partnership with Flagship Housing Association and North Norfolk District Council.

Lady Leicester said she wanted to see Steven Newing House after visiting Aspire Young Person's Centre in Great Yarmouth, which is also run by the Benjamin Foundation.

She said: 'I have been very impressed meeting the young people and the very nice staff and there is a lovely atmosphere here.

'It is a worrying time with the lack of jobs available for young people, but here they are being given stability, which some may not have had in the past, and they are being encouraged to go into apprenticeships and to do things for nothing which could eventually lead them into paid work.'

Steven Newing House was opened in 2003 and is named after a Fakenham schoolboy who went missing 45 years ago and has never been found.
