A 53-year-old man has been charged with a section five public order offence following a disturbance when Prime Minister David Cameron visited Norwich.
Andrew David Peel, aged 53, of Cock Street, Wymondham, has been bailed to attend Norwich Magistrates Court on Friday 14 February. The charge came after anti-cuts protesters threw placards at Mr Cameron's car when he arrived for his appearance on BBC's Look East. More than 60 people gathered outside The Forum and its car park entrance as the premier arrived for his regional television interview. David Peel, publicity officer with Norfolk People's Assembly, said the protestors gathered were principally from the Norfolk People's Assembly, but also from the Green and Labour parties, Disabled People Against Cuts, Equal Lives disability rights group and others. He said: 'We wanted to make it known to Mr Cameron that he cannot just breeze into Norwich, make a few sham announcements and then breeze out again without a murmur of protest. 'We are here on behalf of hundreds of thousands of people in Norfolk who are suffering from government cuts.'
