Parents have been reassured that childcare and health services will still be delivered on Cadge Road.

The Inspiration Trust - the controversial academy chain - took the unusual step of releasing a statement to quash 'rumours' that it was evicting the Earlham Early Years Centre from the neighbouring Norwich Primary Academy after it was given notice on the lease on some of its office and meeting space.

Norwich MP Clive Lewis used his maiden speech in June to accuse the controversial academy chain of being 'robber barons', telling MPs that the Earlham Early Years Centre in one of the most deprived parts of the city had been told by its new landlords, the Inspiration Trust, that they're to be evicted and must seek new premises.

The early years centre left the office space this week because the space would be used for extra primary school classrooms, but the Trust and centre said that all of its services would still be delivered on the remaining site, even though some offices would be elsewhere.

A statement from the Earlham Early Years Centre said: 'We would like to reassure our community that the Children's Centre will continue to deliver all services from The Earlham Early Years Centre in Cadge Road and our satellite hubs at Marlpit Community Centre and Colman Road Library. We hope to see families over the summer at our Stay and Plays and Story Cafes and look forward to an exciting new autumn programme out in the next few weeks.'

The Inspiration Trust said: 'We are aware that there are rumours circulating that the Earlham Early Years Centre is being evicted, and could be at risk or shut down as a result of improvement work at Norwich Primary Academy. This is untrue.'

Norwich Primary Academy was formerly the Larkman Primary School.

The Inspiration Trust said the school and the early years centre had worked together to make the changes as smoothly as possible, adding that most families would notice no difference to the services they received from the nursery and centre.

The Centre will continue to hold some adult classes at Norwich Primary Academy.

The Cadge Road site was leased to the Inspiration Trust by Norfolk County Council on a 125-year lease. The nursery building and the community centre at either end of the site were retained by the council.
