A south Norfolk town council agreed to the re-branding of its town as part of a promotional exercise for its facilities.

Harleston Town Council accepted the plans proposed under South Norfolk Council's market town initiative to brand the town using its familiar clock tower landmark with the strapline 'Harleston, Time for All.'

Town clerk Margot Harbour said: 'The council did agree in principle to the ethos and the brand they were suggesting.

'Basically, the ethos was the clock tower is the thing that most people associate with Harleston so that was used with the strapline.'

Through the Market Towns Initiative, the council is reinvesting over £800,000 of New Homes Funding Bonus directly back into the market towns of Diss, Harleston, Loddon and Wymondham for the benefit of residents and businesses.

The council is working with town teams in each of the four market towns and providing the funding, resources and expertise to improve facilities, enhance the visitor experience and to promote all that these places have to offer.

The aim of the scheme is to encourage more people to visit and use the market towns, spend longer in them when they visit and to come back again.

This would be achieved by holding events, more promotion, improved signage, enhanced streetscapes, more effective signage and new toilets.
