In the wake of the Grenfell tragedy earlier this year, the Cromer Town Council have decided to form a Resilience Plan for the town.

Councillor Jane Davis explained: 'The aim of the plan is to enhance community resilience and thus responsiveness in the face of adversity.'

The idea began following a presentation from Richard Cook, who co-ordinates community resilience at the North Norfolk District Council.

The town council will work with Mr Cook, as well as the Cromer community, to develop their plans further.

Councillor Davis continued: 'Our objectives are to identify hazards within the community, identify resources and key contacts in the community and assist in the identification of the vulnerable people and areas within the community.'

Mr Cook has already supplied a template for the plan, which will be worked on by the council's Task and Finish Group before reporting back to the full council.

Councillor Davis added: 'To date members of the group have identified a number of potential hazards and drafted outline actions that might help to prepare for such eventualities or to cope with the hazards should they arise.'

At the council's meeting on July 27, the Task and Finish Group will be focusing on the identification of local skills or resources, locations that may be used as places of safety, and community organisations that might be available to assist the most vulnerable in the community.

Councillor Davis continued: 'This is far from complete - but it has lead us to discuss a whole range of hazards from beach pollution and cliff erosion to major fires and loss of utilities, and more besides.'
