Councillors have approved plans which will see steps at a north Norfolk beach removed at the end of the week.
North Norfolk District Council's cabinet met today to discuss removing the stand-alone steps at Happisburgh's west beach from Thursday.
The plans will see the structure stored and maintained locally until erosion rates are stabilised.
Angie Fitch-Tillett, cabinet member for coastal matters, said it was 'regrettable' the steps had to be removed.
Happisburgh resident Stephen Burke said the council had 'ignored more than 1600 people' who signed a petition calling for the steps to be reopened.
Monitoring cliff erosion will continue.
