A man has been arrested after driving a car into a house in Halesworth and then allegedly assaulting a police officer.

A police search was sparked last night after a man drove into a home that was believed to belong to members of his family, and then allegedly assaulted the first police officer on scene.

This led to a search involving the police helicopter, before he was arrested in Lowestoft today.

Police were called to School Lane, in Halesworth, just before 7.45pm to reports that a man had driven a car into a home, smashing through a brick wall and into the bathroom.

A police officer who arrived on scene tried to detain him before he was allegedly assaulted.

The 38-year-old was found at an address in Lowestoft just after midday today.

It is believed he is related to the people who own the house, and police confirmed that he is known to the occupants.

He was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, assaulting a police officer and escape from lawful custody.
