The Jolly Roger was flying high over Sheringham promenade on Sunday, as two dozen swashbuckling pirates set off on a charity walk in aid of the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

The pirate promenade was the idea of BHF Norfolk community fundraiser Alex Mayor, who joined the walk wearing a pirate outfit complete with skull and crossbones hat.

'We thought that as one of the best seaside resorts in Norfolk, Sheringham was the perfect place,' Ms Mayor said.

Town crier Tony Nelson set the buccaneers on their way from the Funky Mackerel Cafe on the seafront with a shout of 'Avast Me Hearties!'

Ms Mayor said: 'We were delighted with the turnout and I was really impressed with the number of people who came dressed in full pirate regalia.

Those taking part did bucket collections and made donations to the BHF, which funds research into the causes, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart and circulatory disease.
