More than 10,000 people including hundreds of car enthusiasts have attended the family-friendly festival, VW Whitenoise, at the Norfolk Showground in Costessey this weekend.

Dedicated to Volkswagens and live music, the festival was celebrating its 10th anniversary.

When the first event was held at Wroxham Football Club just a few VW fans, predominantly beetle owners, turned up.

But in the last decade the event has helped to make camping and campervans cool, while remaining an affordable event for Norfolk families.

For the anniversary event, the organisers brought in two of the UK's top tribute acts.

It was the first time that Hull-based Kasabian tribute act, Kazabian, had performed in Norfolk, and Wolverhampton-based Arctic Monkeys cover band, Antarctic Monkeys also took to the stage.

The festival also featured a roller disco and a mix of live bands and DJs across four stages.

Lucy Haughey, who runs the event with husband Neil, said: 'Over the three days we have had about 10,000 visitors which is well up on the 8,000 who attended the last event, which was held at Fritton Lake.

'The weather's been really kind to us and we beat the target of getting more than 200 vintage VWs.

'Clashing with the Olympics has not hit us as much as it might have done. One of the caterers had a TV so people could up to date with what was going on.'

More than 100 traders were on site and children were kept entertained at a barn full of activities.

The event also raised money for Norfolk charity, Nelson's Journey, which supports bereaved children, and its mascot, Nelson the cat, made an appearance.
