A new exhibition of metal sculpture will be opening this weekend in Overstrand.

Forging Ahead will be on show at the Belfry Arts Centre (BAC) from Saturday and artistic director Nora Gaston has selected a small number of local and national artists to display their work.

She said: 'I can't wait to see the reaction when people see the many different ways that metal can be manipulated and used to create stunning art.

'Whether you like giant metal sculptures or prefer the look and feel of hand-crafted jewellery there will be something here to make you stop and think.'

She will also be working with two local schools to create ideas for a major new metal and glass sculpture which will celebrate what is unique about the local area.

And during this weekend and next, artist Nigel Barnett will be using a mobile forge to produce elements for this new creation.

The final sculpture will be permanently located outside BAC from next summer.

Forging Ahead is open 11am-4pm every day until November 7 and entrance is free. For more information ring 01263 576437 or visit www.belfryarts.co.uk.
