A Norwich woman who turned 104 has put her long life down to hard work - and a glass of sherry.
Ellen Lincoln, who lives at the Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind's sheltered scheme at Hammond Court, marked the milestone with a party with residents and relatives.
She said: 'I have reached the age of 104 through hard work, and a regular glass of sherry. The important thing is to just keep going.'
Originally from Gateshead, Mrs Lincoln was in service in London in the early 1930s, before spending the war packing parachutes in Cambridge. After marrying an airman, she moved to Norfolk and settled in Thorpe St Andrew.
She has lived independently at Hammond Court for five years, and refuses to let failing eyesight affect her.
Julie Lythgoe, of the NNAB, said: 'Ellen is amazing, she cleans her flat, even turning her mattress once a week. We often see her out and about, and she is an enthusiastic member of various clubs. She really is inspiring.'
