The opening a new Lloyds 'super bank' in Great Yarmouth is an 'important investment' in the town centre.
Mayor of Great Yarmouth, Councillor John Burroughs, and Great Yarmouth MP Brandon Lewis, joined staff at Lloyds' 'super branch' in Market Place today to cut the ribbon and welcome customers through the doors. The bank, which has operated in Yarmouth since the 1700s, has closed its two former branches and relocated to a town centre 'hub' following a 15 years search for larger premises.
'It's great to see a confident commitment being made to the town,' said Mr Burroughs.
'Lloyds moving in is an important investment in the Market Place.'
Bank manager Scott Herd said the feedback from customers had been positive, with many praising the modern design.
Concerns had been raised that the opening of another bank in the town centre - Barclays is also moving from Hall Quay to open a flagship branch opposite the new Lloyds - would harm nearby traders, but supporters said the new arrivals would increase footfall and inject new life into the retail quarter.
