A Norfolk man has opened his third independent business in the form of a new greengrocers in Bungay following the closure of the town's fruit and vegetable shop a few months ago.
Craig Trickett, 49, of Earsham, also owns Bairds Butchers in Bungay and the Waveney Farm Shop in Wortwell.
Trickett and Sons, named following the news that Mr Trickett and his wife have successfully adopted the two boys they have been fostering for the last four years, offers locally-sourced fruit and vegetables at prices Mr Trickett says can compete with big supermarket chains.
He said: 'The people who were in this building pulled out and the fruit and vegetable shop closed down so I thought Bungay needs a good greengrocer. If we don't have shops like this the town will die.
'I can compete with the supermarkets on 99 per cent of my stock.'
Mr Trickett's grand opening at 17 Market Place comes at a time when many Bungay traders have raised concerns about Suffolk County Council's £440,000 road improvement scheme, which will take 16 weeks to complete and will result in a number of road closures which they say will be destructive to businesses.
However Mr Trickett, who employs about 20 people in total, said: 'It's a worry but I think you have just got to get on with it now.
'I think as long as we give people the right stuff at the right price they will use us.'
Mr Trickett was joined at the opening by Bob Blizzard, Labour's prospective parliamentary candidate for Waveney.
Mr Blizzard said: 'One of the disappointing things about so many towns is that you find so many shops selling the same things so I think it's brilliant that an independent greengrocers has opened and part of Bungay's charm is that there are so many independent shops.
'You've got something really valuable here so I hope people use it.'
