Mutford, near Lowestoft, is staging its eighth scarecrow festival today and tomorrow.

Among the wacky characters created by residents are a gun-totting gorilla, a transformers robot, a tramp stuck in a bin, Mr Incredible, Shrek, a knight fighting a dragon and a scary witch.

The scarecrow competition trial started at 10am today and by 2pm 50 forms had been handed out to families determined to hunt down all the strange invaders in order to win hampers.

The two day trail is raising funds for Mutford village hall in Mill Road, where people can pick up competition trail forms for £5.

Organiser Roy Hurrell said today's turnout had been better than last year's first day but he added that was because people may have seen the forecasts for Sunday and decided to come on Saturday instead.

The competition runs until 5pm today and between 10am and 4.30pm tomorrow.

People taking part can also vote for their favourite scarecrow.
