A section of the A12 at Carlton is currently closed whilst emergency services are at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision.

Police were called at approximately 7.10pm this evening by the ambulance service with a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision involving a car and a motorcycle.

The male motorcyclist was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the car, a 43 year old woman from the Saxmundham area has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has been taken to the Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

The road remains closed whilst a collision investigation takes place and diversions are in place.

It is the fourth death on the roads in East Anglia in just a matter of hours following a crash between a lorry and a car on the A47 at East Winch at about 11.15am today.

Norfolk police have since confirmed three people died in the crash which led to the road being closed until shortly before 7.10pm tonight.

Three people in the car were pronounced deceased at the scene, the driver of the lorry suffered minor injuries.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this collision; calls should be made to the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101.
