A school has spoken of their 'great sadness' to learn that a former pupil died in a grain silo at a west Norfolk farm.

Arthur Mason, 22, tragically died on Wednesday July 9 at his father's farm, Larchwood Foods, Swaffham Road in Fincham.

Mr Mason was a pupil at Langley School in Loddon from 2007 until 2010 until he left after completing year 13 and had only recently visited the school.

Headmaster Dominic Findlay, who spoke on the behalf of all the staff at the school said: 'Arthur was one of the best-liked, good-natured and good-humoured members of his year.

'From dressing up in chain mail to usher prospective parents into the history department at an Open Morning, to his rendition of Lola with Spencer Hart for the form album, to his obsession with James Bond themes, he will be fondly remembered and even more sadly missed.

'He visited the school very recently and a number of staff were able to catch up with him. It's with great sadness and a sense of disbelief that we have to accept that we will not see him again. Our best wishes, thoughts and condolences go to his family at this devastating time.'

The University of Gloucestershire in Cheltenham where Mr Mason was a history student and a keen rugby player, have offered support to fellow students.

Stewart Dove, director of student support at the University of Gloucestershire, said: 'The university is saddened to hear of the tragic death of one of its students.

'Our thoughts are with his family, friends and peers at this extremely difficult time.

'The University's support services are available over the summer vacation for any student who has been affected by this very sad news.'

Friends have taken to social media to talk of their sadness and shock.

On Twitter, Samantha Leach said: 'So shocked that Arthur is no longer with us. Shame to lose such an amazing person. Thoughts are with his family. #RIP.'

A friend named as Angelina said: 'Cannot believe the passing of Arthur Mason, he used to walk me home from nights out to make sure I got home okay.'

Community rugby coach Dave Barley also tweeted: 'Rest in Piece Arthur Mason. A gent and a pleasure to coach @UGRFC #RIP.'

West Norfolk borough councillor Trevor Manley said that he heard the sad news at Barton Bendish council meeting and that attendees had three minutes silence for him.
