A well-known personality in the Cromer area is now its newest councillor after securing a landslide by-election win.

Restaurateur, entertainer and photographer Andreas Yiasimi won the seat for the Liberal Democrats with twice as many votes as his nearest rival.

Mr Yiasimi is part of the long-standing family-run Greek restaurant business, the Constantia Cottage at East Runton, where he and his brother also perform music to entertain diners.

He is also a celebrity chef who takes part in and helps organise the Crab and Lobster festival, and a freelance photographer attending many public events including carnival week at Cromer, where he lives with his family.

Mr Yiasimi polled 558 votes in the election to find a successor to former leader of Conservative-controlled North Norfolk District Council Keith Johnson, who died in a shotgun incident.

Second was Labour's Jen Hamilton-Emery with 240, third was UKIP's David Ramsbotham with 218, while Conservative Tony Nash, who is celebrating his wedding anniversary today, brought up the rear with 181 in a 40pc turnout.
