Norfolk dancers out at Knights Hill roundabout to greet the dawn on May Day

A group of West Norfolk Morris Dancers were out and about over the Easter weekend - but only early risers will catch their next event.

The King's Morris performed for audiences on Easter Monday in Snettisham, Heacham and at Thornham.

Umbrellas were at the ready as the weather threatened its traditional Bank Holiday downpours - but the dancers entertained visitors the Rose and Crown, Norfolk Lavender and Lifeboat Inn respectively.

The next dance means a very early start as the group will be dancing the dawn up at Knights Hill, King's Lynn, on May 1.

The traditional event will see the King's Morris at the roundabout at first light - 5.15am - to greet May Day.

The day will also feature a parade by the group from St Margaret's Church through the town centre from noon.

The King's Morris, formed in 1978, revived the old tradition in 1983. A large garland of flowers, greenery and beads surrounding a doll is mounted on a pole and carried about the town, accompanied by the blowing of Ox Horns.

They will be out and about over the Bank Holiday weekend, starting in the courtyard at Holkham Hall at 11am before moving to the Lord Nelson at Burnham Thorpe at noon; The Globe at Wells at 1pm and back to Holkham Hall from 3pm.
