Brian Heed, who lived on Boyd Avenue in Toftwood, sustained 100 separate injuries during the attack on February 5 last year.

The 69-year-old's killer, Richard Beane, of Brunswick Close in Dereham, was jailed for 28 years at Norwich Crown Court in May.

An inquest into Mr Heed's death opened in Norwich this morning, but was concluded minutes later as criminal proceedings had been held.

Area Coroner Yvonne Blake said Mr Heed had been the victim of a 'brutal assault

She said: 'Passers by raised concerns after identifying bloody clothes in a lay-by and they found him at his address.

Ms Blake said that because Beane had already been sentenced, the inquest would be 'discontinued'.

Beane, 49, had known Mr Heed from Toftwood Social Club where they were both members. He pleaded guilty to murder.
