A group of women that run a monthly coffee morning at the Memorial Pavilion, South Creake's community centre, has already raised £500 towards a defibrillator from the fundraising get-togethers.

Sue Hart, Glynis Clack and Alison Wakeman aim to raise around £2,000 for the life-saving equipment, and are a quarter of the way there, after just six mornings.

Surrounding the centre, which was opened two years ago by the Duke of Edinburgh, are tennis, football and bowls clubs while the hall hosts Zumba and keep-fit classes.

Mrs Hart said: 'The pavilion is the centre of village life and we thought it would be the best place for the defibrillator.

'When we've raised a bit more money we hope to get someone from the NHS to advise us where to site the equipment.'

The coffee mornings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month, between 10.30am and noon.
