A Norfolk hospital is yet to restore its systems after a national cyber attack on the NHS - but has told patients to come to their appointments on Monday.

The James Paget Univesity Hospital in Gorleston was one of those hit by the wide-scale ransomware attack on Friday.

The hospital said on Saturday it was still relying on its back-up systems, but that patients should come to appointments on Monday or Tuesday unless they are told otherwise.

Hazel Stuart, deputy medical director, said: ' I am proud of all our staff who have done what they always do and worked together through this difficult situation to provide the best care they can for our patients.

'Where possible we have kept individual patients informed if they were due to come into the hospital and we will continue to do that. We apologise for any disruption this has caused.

'So my message is please come to your appointment on Monday or Tuesday unless you hear from us.

'I would also reiterate that A&E continues to deal with emergencies but if you are unwell, and it isn't serious, NHS111 and pharmacies are available.

'Those attending A&E with more minor illnesses are likely to be waiting considerably longer whilst we are using manual systems.'

Andrew Palmer, director in charge of the incident, said there were 'detailed plans in place' and their IT team took 'decisive action' as soon as they were made aware of the attack.

'They worked into the night and are continuing to work on restoring normal arrangements as soon as possible,' he said.

'Our dedicated staff pulled together and quickly implemented our paper systems to minimise the impact for our patients. Thank you to them and our partners for the support they have provided.'

All but six NHS trusts are now thought to be up and running.

A Cobra meeting was held on Saturday afternoon after 45 NHS organisations were caught up in the global attack, which is thought to have affected 99 countries, including the US and Russia.

• The hospital said to check its Facebook page for further updates.
