Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn, has announced new chairman

Dr Edward Libbey will be taking on the position when outgoing chairman, David Dean leaves the Trust this month.

Dr Libbey grew up in Lynn and now lives in Starston, south Norfolk, where he is chairman of Starston Parish Council.

He has broad executive and non-executive board-level experience and is currently a lay member, responsible for finance and performance, on the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group.

Dr Libbey said: 'I am excited to be joining the Trust as chairman and working closely with the governors, members and the executive team.

'There are without doubt immediate challenges for the hospital. However, I see the Queen Elizabeth Hospital continuing to play a vital role in providing excellent healthcare for the region and I am very much looking forward to being chair at this important time.'

Previously Dr Libbey was a non-executive director of NHS Norfolk, the chair of the Learning & Skills Council in Norfolk and on the East of England Regional Council.

Mr Libbey holds a PhD in chemistry from Cambridge University and is a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Energy Institute.

He has nearly 40 years of international management experience in the energy and high technology industries. He is vice-chair of the Energy & Utility Forum and a council member of the British Institute of Energy Economics.

Esmé Corner, lead governor and interview panel chair said that she is very pleased to be able to announce the appointment.

She said: 'On behalf of all the governors I wish to thank David Dean, who as interim chair has done an excellent job in helping guide the Trust through our recent challenges.'
