Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk Philip Curl has officially opened a new group working to tackle loneliness and isolation in Dereham.

Mr Curl is the patron of Dereham Forget-Me-Nots, which has been set up by Dereham's new mayor Hilary Bushell with support from Breckland councillor Lynda Turner.

It is for anyone, of any age, who feels lonely and isolated.

Mr Curl said: 'I think Dereham Forget-Me-Nots is a marvellous idea.

'There are so many people out there who feel alone and don't know where to turn - and not just older people - and this can lead to metal health problems, which is a major issue today.

'This group provides a relaxing environment for people to meet and make friends and it can make a major impact on some people's lives.'

The group will run at Dereham Library between 10am and 12pm on the last Tuesday of every month.
