The Can-cervive cancer support group was set up by Emma Tills and Jo Pawlett more than two years ago – and it has gone 'from strength to strength.'

Last month the group marked their second year anniversary with a celebratory meeting at the Louise Hamilton Centre at the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston, where they hold monthly sessions. Helping others to overcome any fears they may have, offer support and discuss concerns about cancer at the meetings, there are now more than 70 group members and many attend the monthly sessions.

Mrs Tills and Mrs Pawlett were both diagnosed in 2010 when they were 36, and are continuing to help others. Mrs Tills was diagnosed with a very rare form of bowel cancer and Mrs Pawlett was diagnosed with breast cancer. But after both bravely battling the disease, they decided to set up a support group to help others overcome any fears and meet others in a similar position.

Mrs Tills said: 'The group has been going from strength to strength – we still get so much from doing it. We are here to support you, whatever your age or type of cancer.'

Mrs Pawlett added: 'A lot of friendships have been made outside of the group and that's amazing. Its a really positive way for us to move forward, and has been really inspiring.'

At the celebration of Can-cervice last month, candles were poignantly lit to remember two group members who had sadly died.

Mrs Tills said: 'The group has brought lots of different people together and has touched so many lives. The Louise Hamilton Centre have been really supportive and we want to thank Vicky, Lindsay and Emma for all their help with running the group. We would not be where we are without their support – they are amazing.'

The Can-cervive cancer support group will next meet at the Louise Hamilton Centre in Gorleston on Thursday, April 20, between 10am and noon.
