Dreams have become reality for a talented teenage footballer.

Harvey Sayer, 15, is set to pull on an England shirt after being selected to play for the national under-15 team.

The Bungay High School pupil was spotted by Colchester United while playing for Suffolk Schools and subsequently signed a two-year scholarship with the Sky Bet League Two club.

While playing for Colchester, the youngster was scouted by England coaches and has been selected for a four-day training camp at St George’s Park - the English Football Association’s national football centre.

The camp takes place from February 12 to 15 and includes a double-header fixture against Belgium.

Harvey, who plays in both the left back and left wing position, has expressed his joy at hearing the news.

He said: “When my mum told me I was in utter disbelief and shock.

“I was so happy that I had just got a call-up from England. I couldn’t believe it would happen to me in my life – only in my dreams.”

He added: “It still hasn’t properly sunk in – it still seems only a dream – I keep looking at the email that was sent to me. It isn’t a dream, this is really going to happen.”

Originally from Gorleston, Harvey now lives and goes to school in Bungay.

The teenager added: “I can’t wait to put on an England shirt and play the best I can for my country - it really is a dream come true.”

Robert Peace, chairman of Suffolk County Schools’ FA, has described the call-up as “a fantastic achievement”.

He said: “Harvey should be very proud of his achievements so far in his short time in the game.

“It does still show there is value in representing your country and the potential opportunities the games can lead to.

“We wish Harvey all the success with his England call-up and hope he continues in his development.”

Colchester United Academy manager Jon De Souza expressed the club’s pride in the young player and said it was a testament to the hard work put in by all the staff, parents and players at the academy.
