Seafront businesses have stepped in to provide a fireworks display during the half-term holiday.

It comes after there were no confirmed plans for a big fireworks display in Great Yarmouth from tourism bosses.

Managing director of the Pleasure Beach, Albert Jones, said: 'We got together with traders around the seafront to raise enough funds for the fireworks to go ahead this year.

'We didn't want there to be no fireworks this half term.

'The fireworks display is important to us and it's a great midweek event for us to host and for people to be a part of.'

The Pleasure Beach has teamed up with a range of businesses, including Sara's Tearooms, Merrivale Model Village, Wellington Pier Complex and HJ's Diner.

The fireworks display will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday, October 25, off South Beach Parade opposite the Pleasure Beach Gardens.

Although the businesses have funded the fireworks themselves, they are not asking for any donations from the public and are advertising the display as a free event for all to enjoy.

Matthew Smith, co-owner of Sara's Tearooms with his mum Sara Smith, said: 'We wanted to be a part of this as the fireworks in summer and in previous years have really made a difference.

'Things like this give a nice atmosphere and it's great we can put on a big scale event for the public.

'Albert from the Pleasure Beach contacted us about collaborating with them and other businesses to organise the event.

'An event like this is quite hard for one business to do on their own, so we all got together.

'There's no competition for the fireworks and it's an opportunity to draw more people in.

'It's completely free and anyone can enjoy the display.

'We're all working with BID, they're supporting the event and are happy with it to go ahead.

'I can see where the challenges are to put on something this big, but it's great to be involved and we're giving something back to the town.'
