A half-eaten pizza could be one of the factors behind a crash which killed a fish and chip shop worker who took his boss' car without permission, an inquest has heard.

Hasan Imanli died at the scene of the crash on Brandon Road in Weeting, near Brandon, after he was flung out of a car window and trapped under the vehicle on November 21 last year.

David Kingsnorth told today's hearing at Norwich Coroner's Court it was raining and road conditions were bad when he came across the aftermath of the crash at about 10pm.

He said he noticed a leg and checkered chef's trousers under the car, which had landed on its roof, and added: 'While I was searching around the vehicle there was a pizza box and half-eaten pizza scattered around.'

Ali Biten, who employed Mr Imanli, said the 29-year-old had taken his silver Ford Mondeo without permission, and was not insured to drive it.

Crash investigator PC Jamie Hutchin said an examination of the car, which suffered 'significant damage' when it hit a large shrub, had found no faults which could have contributed to the crash.

He said it was not clear why the car had failed to negotiate a left-hand bend in the road, and its speed was unknown.

But he said the half-eaten pizza, the very wet road surface, the fact Mr Imanli may not have been familiar with the car, and the fact the Methwold resident was not wearing a seat belt, could all have been factors.

He added: 'Had he been [wearing a seat belt] it is likely he would have been restrained to the vehicle and his injuries might not have been so severe.'

Assistant Norfolk coroner David Osborne told the inquest, which Mr Imanli's parents attended, that a post mortem had found no alcohol or drugs in his system, and concluded he died of multiple injuries due to a road crash.

He recorded a verdict that Mr Imanli died as a result of a road traffic collision, and offered his condolences to his family on their sad loss in difficult circumstances.
