But she wasn't seeking a drastic solution to a failed marriage - her hand had become swollen after an accident and she called in to the fire station in Friar's Lane, Great Yarmouth, at 2.55pm before heading to hospital.
Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service have specialist ring cutting gear at the pumps for such an eventuality, often the person whose finger is rescued makes a donation to the Fire Services Benevolent Fund.
Often fire crews are called to hospitals to cut people free of rings.
A fire service spokesman said the woman was in 'some pain', but freeing her hand took about five minutes.
