Thousands of visitors to this year's Royal Norfolk Show will be treated to a platinum line-up of performances in the Grand Ring.

This year sees the 60th anniversary of the show on the Costessey site and fans will be treated to a top military display team dropping in as the star attraction, as well as motorcycling dare devils and pony parades.

The RAF Falcons parachute display team, based at RAF Brize Norton, will make their return to the Grand Ring at the two-day show today and tomorrow.

The display at the Norfolk Showground – which is sponsored by Hoseasons – is a firm favourite with families. Tens of thousands of visitors will be amazed by an array of advanced freefall manoeuvres, with falling speeds of up to 120mph.

Their unique, non-contact canopy stack – which has become synonymous with the Falcons – will also be on the line-up. The height of the display is dependent on the weather but the 16 members are expected to perform from 9,000 to 12,000ft above the ground today.

A spokesperson for the RAF Falcons said: 'We pride ourselves on performing to the highest of standards but also spending time with the public.' He added that the team distinguished themselves from other displays with their interaction with the crowd.

The Falcons will perform alongside an impressive line-up in the show's main ring – the Bolddog Lings Freestyle extreme motorcycle team will perform gravity defiant stunts.

The team has the largest landing ramp in the world, allowing riders to jump gaps of more than 75ft and reach heights of more than 35ft.

Dan Whitby, Bolddog Lings team manager and one of the UK's top freestyle riders, said: 'It's more than just freestyle. It's a non-stop show that will entertain everyone from off–road enthusiasts to the general public.'

Livestock and agriculture are also a big focus for the ring this year, with some of the animal classes being judged by spectators. Equine displays ranging from children on small ponies to the Waldburgh Shires Heavy Horse Musical Drive are also guaranteed to be a hit with main ring audiences.

Listen out too for the band from the Brigade of Gurkhas performing twice daily – they'll also be leading standard-bearers from the Royal British Legion into the ring and taking part in the closing parade.
