It has lain dormant in Great Yarmouth since previous tenant BHS closed its doors in August 2016.

However, now the future of the store on Regent Road has been revealed, and its new tenants hope to have it open for business in five weeks time.

Discount store Poundstretcher has revealed it will be opening a brand new store in the location, in an investment of more than £1.2m.

The new store, which will also contain the chain’s sister store The Pet Hut, is hoped to create an additional 35 jobs for the town.

Gerry Loughran, one of the company’s directors, said: “We are very excited to be opening the store, which will be an important investment for us and for Great Yarmouth.

“I still remember our original shop and we are looking forward to being back in the town centre.”

The store will be the chain’s second location in Great Yarmouth, having also opened on the former Staples on Fuller’s Hill.

Mr Loughran added: “The Fuller’s Hill store is one we plan to stay there for some time as well. This will serve the travelling customers while the new store will serve the town centre.

“The store will be getting a full refurbishment and is a significant investment for us.”

Mr Loughran added the company will only be operating on the ground floor of the unit and is therefore also looking for new tenants for the upper floor.

It will be the first time the Huddersfield-based brand will have a store in the town centre since 2014, when its previous location on Regent Street closed.
