A wildlife organisation is appealing for vital funds to support an innovative new project to help educate the public about the wild birds of prey in our county.
The Hawk and Owl Trust, based at Sculthorpe, near Fakenham, is fundraising for the Urban Peregrine project - an interactive and educational mobile trailer, fully equipped with the latest technology to help people connect with the countryside.
Fully-equipped with a wheelchair ramp, a big screen, live-streaming nest cameras, and educational resources, it will be taken into urban areas to bring wildlife into the lives of those who may not have the opportunity or inclination to visit the countryside, free of charge.
However, during the peregrine breeding season, the trailer take a break from visiting schools and charity events, and it will be located at Norwich Cathedral.
Zoe Smith, Urban Peregrine project officer from the trust, said: “The educational trailer would be an excellent tool in bringing people together.
“It would offer everybody, regardless of their religion, income, gender, abilities or background, a place to enjoy, interact and learn about wild birds of prey.”
The charity is hoping to have the trailer ready and put into use by 2018.
It is hoped that the project will benefit a wide array of people, from children to adults, and that being mobile, it will help educate the community of Norwich as well as the whole of Norfolk.
As part of its fundraising activities the Trust is calling for support through the Aviva Community Fund 2017.
This initiative lends a helping hand to communities by offering support and funding for local causes.
The trust is relying on votes to increase their chances of winning funding of up to £25,000, as only the projects with the most votes will become Aviva Fund finalists.
