Former Norwich City footballer Danny Mills has recovered from illness and is preparing to take on a charity cycling challenge in memory of his unborn son, who he lost to spina bifida a decade ago.

The former Sprowston High School pupil has recently been in the spotlight after reaching the final of the BBC's Celebrity Masterchef.

Mr Mills was due to start his challenge on Saturday, September 22, the day after the final of Celebrity Masterchef was screened, but had to postpone after contracting gastroenteritis.

The 35-year-old former full-back, who was capped 19 times by England and played at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, has now reorganised the challenge to be held this Sunday and Monday.

The first Archie Mills Memorial Challenge will see Mr Mills cycle 220 miles from Leeds to London on Sunday, to raise funds for the charity Shine, which supports more than 10,000 babies, children and adults living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus.

Then on he will take on a bespoke Olympic distance triathlon, swimming 1.5km, cycling 40km and running 10km around Richmond Park.

Mr Mills and his wife, Lisa, lost their son four months into pregnancy after being told the baby had severe spina bifida, which meant he would not survive.
