Breckland Council chairman Kate Millbank commended those who face danger to keep us safe as the Armed Forces flag was raised at the council offices in Dereham.

Peter Loades from the Royal British Legion carried out the honour in celebration of Armed Forces Day on Saturday. A minute's silence was also observed.

The ceremony was attended by Flying Officer Matthew Akers, based at RAF Marham, as well as John English from the Royal British Legion.

Councillor Millbank, leader William Nunn and deputy leader Sam Chapman-Allen were also present, alongside other executive members and senior council staff.

Ms Millbank said: 'In Breckland we have a strong sense of our historical connection with the armed forces. At a time when we've seen armed servicemen patrolling public places in response to anticipated terrorist attacks, we should all remember those who courageously put themselves in the path of danger to keep us safe.'
