An owl has remained trapped in a cavity wall in Dereham, after Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service were unable to free it.

An officer, with an urban search and rescue vehicle, attended the scene in John Bates Close, where the bird had become trapped in a cavity wall and unable to free itself.

The fire service was called to the scene at 10.06am on Thursday, September 7, but they were unable to locate the animal.

The officer made a hole in the wall where the bird was reportedly stuck, and left the incident at 12.45pm.

A spokesman for the fire service said: 'We hope the bird will emerge of its own accord.'

The RSPCA has been informed and a branch spokesperson for the Norwich and mid-Norfolk RSPCA commented that this 'happens all the time'.
