More than 500 pupils from across Norfolk and north Suffolk have visited an annual event encouraging young people to continue their studies after sixth form.

The year 10 pupils, from 35 schools around the region, attended the University of East Anglia's (UEA) Move On Up event, which is aimed at those who may not have considered higher education.

The initiative, now in its 10th year, includes a range of academic and practical sessions, with ones run by Norwich University of the Arts (NUA), Anglia Ruskin University, the University of Suffolk, the College of West Anglia and Easton and Otley College.

In total, there were 18 workshops from pupils to pick from, ranging from forensic sicence and events to tourism management and law.

After last year's event, 58pc of students who were previously unsure about entering higher education said they were more likely to consider university.

UEA's outreach officer Lauren Starkey said: 'Our joint ambition is to inspire young people to raise their aspirations by showing them the huge variety of courses offered.

'There's a much wider range of subjects to choose from than most people ever imagine – something for everyone. Our student ambassadors were also on hand to talk about what life outside the lecture theatre is like at university.'
