A primary school has gone from being in special measures to achieving a good rating from the education watchdog.

An Ofsted inspector visited Snettisham Primary School for two days in May.

In her report, she said: 'Leaders have established stability following a lengthy period of turbulence, securing improvements in teaching and a shared commitment from all staff to improve the

school further.

'Teachers plan lessons which interest and motivate pupils. They have good relationships with pupils. Additional adults make a strong contribution to pupils' learning because teachers and teaching assistants work effectively in partnership.'

Inspector Maria Curry said the school, in School Road, had been led by a number of temporary heads over the last four years,

'It joined a local academy trust and since September has benefited from a permanent experienced executive headteacher and deputy headteacher who also leads another local school,' she adds. 'This has brought stability to the school.'

Her report says staff are determined to ensure that pupils enjoy a broad and interesting curriculum. Snettisham's 92 pupils say there are many more opportunities for being active in school than there were in the past. One told the inspector: 'We are all one big, happy family.'

Teaching is rated as good. But the report said that more able pupils sometimes have to complete work which is too easy for them before moving on to more challenging tasks.

It adds to improve further, the school must improve teaching so that the most able pupils are challenged consistently in all classes and subjects. And it says teachers should 'identify with greater precision where pupils have gaps in learning and

plan lessons which address these'.

Roger Livesey, chair of the West Norfolk Academies Trust said: 'This is a wonderful result for Snettisham. Three years ago the school was in special measures and joined the West Norfolk Academies Trust.

'The trust is proud to have contributed to a new state of the art building for reception and pre-school pupils. Standards in the school have improved beyond recognition and all staff, parents and governors are to be congratulated on their efforts'
