Children at Sheringham Primary School got an insight into the workings of local government, when they visited the town council offices this week.
After a welcome by mayor David Gooch, the 17 school council members learned about the history of the council and looked at similarities between town and school meetings, including the signing of the minutes and the election of members.
The youngsters, who took notes and reported back on their visit to fellow pupils, then had a chance to ask questions before holding their own meeting, chaired by head teacher Sue Brady, in the council chambers.
The group, which meets fortnightly, is currently working on a traffic survey which has seen two school council members work with a local police community support officer to log cars parking illegally or making U turns outside the school.
They plan to put their results in a 'safe parking' leaflet to hand out to parents.
Mrs Brady, who was also accompanied by town councillor and Sheringham Primary chair of governors Carol Fields and her fellow town councillor and school governor Madeleine Ashcroft, said pupils had found the visit interesting and informative.
'It has given them a chance to see that they work for the benefit of the school in the same way the council works for the town,' she added.
