Pupils from Lakenham Primary School were given the chance to get up close with a Lamborghini Gallardo, which was dropped off by Enterprise Rent A Car.

Along with the car, Enterprise Rent A Car's local management team of Chris Whatling and Lucy Brooks gave educational sessions with a range of prizes to year-six classes.

The pupils had to design their own supercar, which included drawing up a budget and making the difficult decision on what special features they wanted the car to have.

The final designs were presented to the rest of the class and a winner voted for. Afterwards the youngsters had the chance to quiz Mr Whatling and Ms Brooks about their job roles.

Emma Maudlin, assistant head at Lakenham Primary, said: 'As a school we want the children to be aware of all the options and choices they have when they leave school and most importantly to raise their aspirations.

'Enterprise Rent A Car not only pride themselves on engaging with the local community but they also have a fantastic graduate programme which I was unaware of.'

Robin Tungate, from Business in the Community, helped organised the meeting.

He said: 'Norwich is the second worst for social mobility in the UK. If you're born into a deprived area, you may tend to stay there throughout your life.

'The point of partnering business with schools is to raise aspirations with those children of deprived areas and to get them to think about work and careers, to inspire children. It's not about someone turning up for the day - it's forming a relationship and making it long-lasting.'

Pupil David Mabahandi, 10, said: 'I got to learn about cars and how we could design one. It was great to see such a rare car as I've never see one up close before.'

Chloe Ware, 11, said: 'I really enjoyed seeing the car because I've never seen one before and it was really fun designing my own.'

The Lamborghini Gallardo is the Italian company's best-selling car and can reach speeds of 190mph.
