Norwich pupils have been creating their very own opera inspired by Mozart's Così Fan Tutte.
The youngsters. from Colman Junior, Cringleford Primary and The Clare School. are taking part in the Theatre Royal's latest Norfolk Schools Project and will take to the theatre's stage with their show on Sunday.
Their performance is the culmination of a project involving them working with professional performers and watching English Touring Opera's production.
At Colman Junior on Wednesday, pupils were busy rehearsing. When asked about their show, Alfie Booty, nine, said: 'Well Don Bello is cruel and he has slaves and Alfredeo and Fernando both love Maria and Lucia.'
Bella Sidola, nine, added: 'I play Maria. Well, Maria and Lucia are in love with two boys and Don Bello sends the boys to pretend to go to war to see if the girls will be faithful. I feel really excited and quite nervous. I have been counting down the days until the big performance.'
Colman Junior headteacher Carolyn Sayer said the project was a great opportunity for pupils to work with professional musicians and actors.
'The children have entered whole-heartedly into the spirit of the project and have been really enthusiastic when composing their songs and rehearsing,' she said.
The pupils' performance is 2.30pm on Sunday. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance from the box office. Call 01603 630000.
